Minnesotans should be able to work and care for themselves and their families. A paid family and medical leave insurance program is a fair, common-sense solution that would let them do both.

This week marks the 25th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act, a federal law that allows some workers access to 12 weeks of unpaid leave during certain life-changing situations. Paid family and medical leave for all workers is the next step we need to take in order to ensure that everyone can take the time they need to care for themselves and their families when needed most.

Enacting a paid family and medical leave program will require all of our voices -- and strong elected leaders. That's why we were pleased to hear U.S. Senator Tina Smith's commitment to this fight. Last week we joined her to share why this issue is so important for workers, families, employers, and our economy, alongside members of the community and paid family and medical leave champion state Senator Susan Kent. #FMLA25

As we come upon the 25th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act, only 13% of workers have access to *paid* family and medical leave. We are thrilled to have been invited to a discussion today with Minnesota’s newest US Senator, Tina Smith, as she commits to continuing the fight for paid family and medical leave in her role in Washington. We are joined by other advocates, community members, and state Senator Susan Kent. ... See MoreSee Less

Hi! I recently started petition on Change.org about amending the Family and Medical Leave Acr of 1993 so that all citizens of every state receive #paidfamilyleave. If any of you can take a minute to sign it, it would be fantastic!

Minnesotans for Paid Family Leave shared their photo.

At this time last year, the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act had been heard in six committees in the Minnesota State Senate and passed off the Senate floor. This year, for the third year in a row, Minnesota House leadership blocked the bill from being heard and new Senate leadership followed suit. Research has shown that PFML programs benefit children, families, and employers. Polls show the public supports it across party lines. Whose interests are lawmakers serving by keeping paid family and medical leave out of the hands of Minnesotans who need it most?
